A great line . . .

Simon Wiesenthal (famous Nazi war criminal hunter) when asked about being a realist — “I am a Jew, therefore I believe in miracles. A Jew who does not believe in miracles is not a realist.” Somehow that struck me as profoundly profound!

Le Morte d’FACEBOOK

February 22nd, 2010 by drpuritan

Facebook has been less than a blessing to the Bailey household. If you like and use it and benefit from it — GREAT! I know many fine believers who use Facebook to communicate with other Christians, post gospel messages and generally encourage others. But it has been a bane to the Bailey family. Tonight, the sword came out and the death-stroke was given. On to more profitable pursuits and better uses of time. Great Christian books to be read! Sermons to be heard! I will keep you posted.

Needed Rest

The trip to GA was a blessing: visiting with Granny; fellowship and church with the Brooks family; LOTS OF GOOD FOOD; SNOW; rest; reflection. God is so good to us.

Happy Birthday, Sweet Charissa!

February 10th, 2010 by drpuritan

“Do you need me for anything?” I asked Dr. Bethea. “I think we can handle things without you,” he replied, as I headed to the cafeteria at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans for some white beans and rice. I needed energy, for in a few hours my first child would be born. How was Dawn, you ask? Enduring 43 hours of labor is not as tough as being a first-time dad, but I figured she was in capable (if gargantuan) hands. Someone had to look after me, and so I figured I better do it. The labor-delivery-recovery room was expansive, beautifully appointed and occupied by a wooden rocker off to the side. When Charissa was born, the nurse handed her to me and I sat in that rocker, in another world it seemed, as the medical staff attended to Dawn’s significant and hard-to-stop bleeding. Lord, please take care of my wife! Lord, help me to rear this precious little girl in Your ways! Was it really 18 years ago? Have I been a good dad? Have I taught her enough about Jesus and His Word? Have I demonstrated to her how thankful to God I am for her? I have fought back tears several times today–I think I will just give up the fight! I love you, dear Charissa! You are an amazing daughter. Thank you for blessing us in so many ways. Happy birthday, dumplin’! The New Orleans trip is still on, if postponed for a bit. Never, ever, ever forget that I love you more than I can say. Live for Jesus. I know I have let you down at times, but He never will! I used to whisper it in your ear as a baby when you were falling asleep, but I will say it again, “Always trust the Bible. It is true.” Psalm 37:4-6

They did it!

Paul, Silas, Timothy and Luke faithfully went and faithfully witnessed. And Lydia was converted! They did it! God led and they obeyed! To God alone be the glory! Acts 16:11-15 — Strategic planning and Providential leading.

Oh, yes, and the Saints won the Super Bowl (fooled you, right?) — a great day!
